Oyo Lawmakers Okay N210bn Top-Up, Mostly for Roads and Airport Upgrade

The House Committee on Finance says the new allocation, mostly for the Ministry of Works, is meant to ensure ongoing projects are completed before Governor Seyi Makinde’s tenure ends.
The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved a Supplementary Finance Bill adding N210 billion to the state’s 2026 budget, raising total planned spending for the year to about N1.1 trillion.
Lawmakers passed the bill at a plenary session on Thursday, September 4, after the House Committee on Finance, Appropriation and State Economic Planning presented its recommendations. The committee is chaired by Hon. Sunkanmi Babalola.
The supplementary allocation lifts the state’s original 2026 budget of N892.09 billion to a new total of N1.1 trillion, with the funds to be drawn from Oyo State’s Consolidated Revenue Fund for the year ending December 31, 2026.
According to the breakdown presented to the House, the bulk of the new money, the full N210 billion, is earmarked for the Ministry of Works to fund infrastructural development, including continued investment in the ongoing upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola International Airport.
Hon. Babalola told lawmakers that the House had “scrutinised every detail” of the request before approving it, and said the aim was to “ensure that all ongoing projects are completed before the end of the tenure of Governor Seyi Makinde.”
The approval comes as the Makinde administration moves through the final stretch of its second term, with infrastructure delivery expected to feature prominently in how the government’s record is judged before the 2027 general elections.
The state government has not yet detailed a full project-by-project breakdown of how the supplementary funds will be disbursed. Further legislative or executive action on specific contracts is expected as implementation proceeds.
